The Tea Journey
Located in 4000 ft, Selim Hill is one of the 87 tea gardens of Darjeeling. It was first planted by the Englishman Henry Selim in 1871, and it borders the town of Kurseong. In its 150 year of existence, Selim Hill has had a glorious heritage.
Once the crown jewel of Andrew Yule Corporation, the garden is famous for both its Black as well as its Green Teas. Selim Hill is the first Darjeeling garden that has agreed to participate in our subscription model.
Spanning over 1,000 acres, half of the garden area is covered by the Selim Hill Forest.
The teas grown in the garden owes a lot to the rich biodiversity of the forest land, which is home to hundreds of different species of birds, including the hornbill, animals like leopards, barking deers, and elephants, and different species of spiders and snakes. The spiritual life of the forest is captured in Selim Hill’s teas.
Selim Hill is a 100% organic.
It is certified by the USDA Organic, as well as the Rainforest Alliance for its commitment to the environment and sustainability.
The Selim Hill Collective was created by the owners of the tea estate, under the Chairmanship of Mr. Rajah Banerjee. The purpose of the Collective is to reimagine the space of the tea estate, by trying to move away from the model of a commercially exploitable plantation, to a sustainable, and inclusive, garden.
The Collective works towards community rejuvenation and wildlife conservation at the garden. We have partnered with the Selim Hill Collective to launch a large-scale reforestation program in the name of our tea club members.
